Each of these popular summer Spanish camps combine Spanish immersion classes with fun, adventurous, educational and culturally significant activities.

Choose from Four Different Summer Spanish Camps

The 2012 program options for youths ages 14 to 17 include:

• Teen Spanish and Surf Camp (US$1,555 per week) – The perfect program for high school students looking to have fun and adventure while learning Spanish in a tropical beach environment. The Surf Camp takes place in Playa Dominical, Costa Rica, in the rain forest on the Central Pacific coast. Each week includes 20 hours of interactive Spanish language instruction,16 hours of surf instruction, use of surfboards, plus two-day adventure tours each weekend.
• Teen Spanish and Volunteer Camp (US$1,255 per week) – A true immersion and service program. Students lodge with host families in the beautiful mountain valley town of Turrialba, Costa Rica. Mornings are spent in immersive Spanish language classes, while four afternoons a week are devoted to volunteer and service activities in the local community. Also included are evening enrichment activities and overnight adventure tours each weekend.
• Teen Spanish and Adventure Camp (US$1,595 per week) – This camp combines Spanish immersion classes with afternoon and weekend adventure tours. Weekday tours include horseback riding, a zip lining and canopy tour, surf lessons and snorkeling. The Camp takes place in Playa Dominical, Costa Rica, in the Central Pacific coast rain forest. Each week includes 20 hours of intense Spanish language instruction, four afternoon tours, evening cultural activities and a weekend two-day overnight tour.
• Teen Adventure and Travel Camp (US$2,945 for 2 weeks) – This is a 14-day adventure camp wherein students travel to different parts of Costa Rica. As the emphasis is on travel and adventure, the camp only includes 16 hours of Spanish classes during the two weeks. Designed for those who want a more intense travel experience, the camp includes camping, hiking, repelling, river rafting, canopy tours, boating, snorkeling and more.

An Emphasis on Safety

Parents often ask what steps are taken to keep their teens safe at these summer Spanish camps. Rest assured that the ISLS takes safety very seriously. First, the camps are all located in small communities with low crime rates. During the camp, students are not allowed outside of the hotel, school, host family or organized activities by themselves. Nightly curfews and a zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol are strictly enforced. In addition, the hotels used all have security staff and bilingual employees, while the tour operators are all licensed by their governments and meet all standards of training and equipment maintenance.
